synecdoche \si-NEK-duh-kee, /sɪˈnɛkdəki/, noun:

A figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole or the whole for a part or general for the special or vice versa.

Synechdoce comes from the the Latin word synecdoche and its Greek counter part συνεκδοχή (sunekdokhe).

Example: The director of the play decided to use a synecdochic cast, to see if any other talent could be found.
